In order to comply with recent changes by the U.S. Department of Education to Title IX regulations that will become effective on August 14, 2020, the South Carolina Technical College System Office is implementing the following Procedure on an interim basis until such time as the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education can consider formally adopting this Procedure at its next regularly-scheduled meeting on September 22, 2020. In the event the System Office determines that any revisions to this interim Procedure are necessary prior to adoption by the State Board, such revisions shall be communicated.
What is Title IX?
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

The college’s Title IX Coordinator oversees compliance with all aspects of the sex/gender harassment, discrimination and misconduct policy. Please contact her to report any Title IX violations, or if you have any questions and/or concerns.
The Title IX Coordinator will work in coordination with Student Services administrators and Chief of Police in cases involving students and with the Office of Human Resources in cases involving DTC employees.

STUDENT CODE PROCEDURES FOR ADDRESSING ALLEGED ACTS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT
Denmark Technical College works to make sure its programs, services, and activities are accessible to all students, in accordance with the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The accommodation process is a collaborative process to understand the student’s disability experience and how the disability may impact the student’s educational experience in order to determine reasonable accommodations. It is the student’s responsibility to self-disclose as a student with a disability and to request accommodations through the Counseling Department.
The Disability Services Division provides counseling and support which helps students with disabilities pursue an academic program of their choice and participate fully in campus life. The counseling office can arrange counseling, special parking, priority registration and other services needed by students with disabilities.
What documentation is required? Documentation should include:
- A clearly defined diagnosis which rules out alternative explanations.
- Levels of functioning and a current statement of condition must be included.
- Explanation of how the disability specifically impacts academic abilities.
- Recommended accommodations and an explanation of how each recommendation will assist in the student’s education.
- Documentation should be on letterhead, dated and signed by a professional with knowledge of the disability.
- A psychological report should be provided for Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorders.
- Medical documentation is needed for physical disabilities.
- Other documentation may be required for specific disabilities.
*Documentation should also be current (no more than three (3) years old.
