Office of the President

WELCOME TO DENMARK TECHNICAL COLLEGE

The Denmark Technical College Area Commission has appointed Tia Wright-Richards as interim president, effective July 8, 2025. A proven academic leader and experienced administrator, Wright-Richards currently serves as the college’s vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer. She also serves as the college’s liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Since joining Denmark Tech in 2010, Wright-Richards has played a crucial role in elevating academic quality, strengthening institutional compliance and securing resources to expand and enhance student programs. She has overseen the development of new academic offerings, led successful federal grant initiatives and provided strategic leadership for core academic functions, including the college’s Honors College and Phi Theta Kappa chapter.

“Tia Wright-Richards has been a constant pillar of leadership and integrity at Denmark Tech for more than a decade,” said Kevin Whitt, chairman of the Denmark Technical College Area Commission. “Her steady hand, institutional knowledge and commitment to students make her the right choice to lead this transition with focus, continuity and care.”

A former director, trainer and healthcare finance executive, Wright-Richards brings more than 25 years of combined private sector and higher education experience to the role.

“I am honored to serve Denmark Technical College in this capacity,” said Wright-Richards. “This institution has been a cornerstone in my professional life and I am committed to ensuring its continued success. We will remain focused on student achievement, academic excellence and strengthening the communities we serve as we carve out the path forward for the college.”

Wright-Richards holds a Master of Arts in management from Webster University and a Bachelor of Arts in business management from Southern Wesleyan University. She is Six Sigma Green Belt certified, a graduate of the South Carolina Technical College System’s Faculty Academy Program and a current doctoral candidate in organizational leadership at Columbia International University.

The Denmark Technical College Area Commission has launched a national search for the institution’s next permanent president and looks to finalize the appointment during the fall semester.
