DTC Alumni Spotlight: Mr. Shawn Hale

Mr. Shawn Hale grew up in Orangeburg County in what he refers to as “a disadvantaged neighborhood.” After enrolling in a car-pentry course in high school, he developed an interest in con-struction. When he looked to continue his education, he choose Denmark Technical College (DTC) and enrolled in the building construction program.
While attending DTC, Hale had the good fortune of interning in the Cadet program, a program that enabled criminal justice stu-dents to work in campus security. Even though this was not his field, when the opportunity arose to apply for the internship, he grabbed it and discovered he enjoyed the work. In 2005, Hale used this experience to start his own security company, DTH Pro-tective Services, LLC which he still owns and operates. Hale’s en-trepreneurial drive and background in construction also enabled him to found Saints Construction, a renovation and remodeling company.
Hale also holds an associate degree in building construction technology from Piedmont Technical College and a bachelor de-gree in criminal justice and sociology from Claflin University, but his first love is always with the alma mater that pushed him to rise above his circumstance and encouraged him to expand his horizons and “do his best.”
With this in mind, his motto is "You control your destiny, use the resources available to get to where you dream to be. Anything is possible."
