DENMARK, SC – Kai Murdock of Denmark Technical College has been named the NJCAA Region 10 Newcomer of the Year following a standout first season with the Denmark Tech Panthers. This recognition highlights Murdock’s impressive impact on the court and serves as a testament to his hard work and skill. Along with this prestigious honor, Murdock was also selected for the Region 10 Second Team, a notable achievement in his debut year with the program.
“Kai’s dedication and talent exemplify what it means to be a Denmark Tech Panther,” said Dr. Willie L. Todd Jr., president and CEO of Denmark Technical College. “His success is a reflection of the hard work he has put in and I have no doubt he will continue to elevate our basketball program in the coming season.”
Throughout the season, Murdock averaged 14.8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists per game. His consistent performance on both ends of the court was a key factor in the Panthers’ success and helped position the team for continued growth. Murdock’s skill level has established him as a player to watch in the future and his efforts have already made a lasting impact on the program.
“Kai came in and set the tone from day one,” said Head Coach Patrick Scipio. “His work ethic, leadership and passion for the game are exactly what we strive for in our players. This is just the beginning and I’m excited to see how he continues to develop and help take our team to the next level.”
In response to the recognition, Murdock expressed his gratitude and excitement for the future of the program. “I’m beyond grateful to be named Newcomer of the Year,” said Murdock. “My teammates and coaches have pushed me to be better every day and that has made all the difference. We’re building something special at Denmark Tech and I can’t wait for next season.”
