Denmark Technical College has named Dr. Eric Brown, Dr. Marc C. David and Dr. W. Franklin Evans as finalists in its presidential search, bringing together three leaders with extensive experience in higher education and a focus on student success. The Denmark Technical College Area Commission will select the college’s next president in the coming weeks.
Dr. Eric Brown has more than 20 years of higher education experience, including roles as associate vice president for student affairs at the South Carolina Technical College System and vice president of student affairs at Williamsburg Technical College. He has led initiatives to improve student retention and enrollment, oversaw inclusive programs and implemented system-wide strategies that generated hundreds of new student leads. He has served as a SACSCOC evaluator and received multiple SCTEA Administrator/Manager of the Year awards. He holds a Ph.D. from Walden University, a master’s in human resources development from Webster University and a bachelor’s in political science from Clemson University.Dr. Marc C. David brings more than 25 years of experience in academic and student affairs. He currently serves as chief academic officer at Johnston Community College, overseeing academic program growth and initiatives to improve retention and student success. He has held roles including dean of students, division chair, associate vice president and director of undergraduate studies and has developed strong partnerships with businesses, industries, K-12 schools and four-year colleges. He holds a Ph.D. in English education from Syracuse University, a master’s in English from North Carolina Central University and a bachelor’s in English from Morehouse College.
Dr. W. Franklin Evans has nearly 30 years of experience in higher education leadership. He currently serves as executive director for education graduate programs at Voorhees University and previously served as president of Voorhees College, acting provost at Claflin University and interim president at South Carolina State University. He also served as vice president of academic affairs at Virginia Union University and associate vice chancellor of academic affairs at Elizabeth City State University. He began his career in K-12 education as a teacher and administrator. He holds a Ph.D. and a master’s in education and bachelor’s degrees in journalism and entomology/biology, all from Georgia State University.
The finalists bring a combination of leadership, academic expertise and commitment to student success that will guide Denmark Technical College into the future. The next president will be responsible for strengthening workforce development programs, expanding access to higher education and building partnerships across the region while preparing students for meaningful careers and fostering economic growth and community engagement in South Carolina.
