Denmark Technical College held its fall honors convocation this week, celebrating academic excellence, leadership and the college’s commitment to student success. The ceremony featured comedian, writer and motivational speaker Akintunde Warnock as the keynote speaker, who encouraged students to approach the year ahead with determination and the right mindset with a blend of wit and wisdom.
Rep. Lonnie Hosey, Bamberg Mayor Corey Ramsey and a representative of Denmark Mayor Harold Johnson brought greetings and was honored for his support of the Denmark Technical College community.
Students were recognized for their achievements across multiple scholarship categories.
Strada Scholars, who each received $7,000, were Eric Clark, Kiamani Murdock and Asia Newsom.
Presidential Scholars, awarded full tuition, room, board and fees, were Joshwana Briggs, Kylee Issac, Bryan Mack, Shantey Martin and Daniel Motino.
Vice Presidential Scholars, who received full tuition, were Jesus Chavarria, Sanique Johnson-Jenkins, Ariona Kinard, Gabriella Miller and Elicer Morales.
Dean’s Scholars, who received half tuition, were Malaysia Davis, Jerome Dukes, Jamais Graves, Emigdio Herrera-Narciso, Ca’mari Hopkins, Damon Junior, Saleese Kind, Jocelyn Kirkland, Jasmine Pontoo, Jaydan Richards, Jalon Styles, Jose Viveros, Keyca Washington, Sherron Waters and Brandon Williams.
Deandre Adkins, Autumn Bradley, Eric Clark, Raven Cuylear, Latosha Dobson, Antwan Frazier, Ty’meshia Garlington, Johnathon Herron, Taufique Iddriss, Brianna Johnson, MacKenzie Johnson, Sanique Johnson Jenkins, Jason Mendez, Jasmine Mobley, Kaimani Murdock, Asia Newsom, Rondasia Prince, Priscilla Robinson, Chiquita Rogers, Christian Rourk, Maurice Simmons, Miriam Stevenson, Sophia Thompson, Sharon Vick and Terrill Walls Jr. were invited to participate in the Denmark Tech Honors College for their exemplary academic performance and leadership potential.
The convocation also recognized the Dawkins Fellows, faculty and staff members selected to participate in the President’s Leadership Institute. This year’s fellows are Stephan Britanak, Stephen Mason, Karen Myers, Cynthia Thompson and Keneshia Washington.
Interim President Tia Wright-Richards praised the honorees and encouraged students to carry the spirit of the day forward. “This convocation is a reminder that excellence is not only recognized but also nurtured here at Denmark Technical College,” she said. “We are proud of our students, faculty and staff and grateful for the leaders and community partners who stand with us as we prepare our students for success.”
