Denmark Technical College celebrates Iota Cohort of electrical lineworker graduates at the Center of Energy

Denmark Technical College proudly celebrated the graduation of the Iota Cohort of its electrical lineworker program at the James W. Bowden Sr. Lineworker Range, an integral part of the college’s forward-thinking Center of Energy.

Graduates Jayden Brown, James Collins, Amir Dickerson, Jalen Johnson, Michael McCluney and Oval Seivwright were honored for completing the rigorous, hands-on training program that prepares students for high-demand, high-impact careers in the energy sector.

“This program isn’t just about training workers, it’s about transforming lives,” said Dr. Willie L. Todd Jr., president and CEO of Denmark Technical College. “The Center of Energy is proof positive of what’s possible when an institution dares to innovate and invests intentionally in its students. These graduates are forging onward, stepping into the energy sector with skill, purpose and the full power of an HBCU legacy.”

Under Dr. Todd’s leadership, Denmark Tech has emerged as a force in regional workforce development, launching high-impact programs aligned with industry needs while centering student success. The Iota Cohort’s graduation highlights how the college is connecting rural talent to the rapidly evolving energy economy.

Industry leaders from Dominion Energy and Duke Energy joined the celebration, underscoring the strong employer partnerships that help shape the curriculum and hire program completers. The ceremony featured a live demonstration of technical skills, certificate presentations and remarks from community stakeholders.

Also in attendance was James W. Bowden Sr., Denmark Tech alumnus, retired Duke Energy executive, and namesake of the training range.

“To see this level of excellence, determination and skill on display is incredibly moving,” said Bowden. “These graduates represent everything Denmark Tech stands for and I’m proud to see them embrace this life changing opportunity.”

Launched in 2022, the lineworker program continues to thrive as part of Denmark Tech’s broader mission to fuel economic mobility, drive innovation and shape the future of the energy workforce.
