Denmark Technical College Celebrates Eighth Cohort of Electrical Lineworker Graduates

Denmark Technical College proudly hosted the graduation ceremony for its eighth cohort of electrical lineworkers on December 12 at the James W. Bowden Sr. Lineworker Range.

The program, which strives to diversify the energy sector and uplift underserved communities, celebrated the accomplishments of graduates Daikel Mitchell-Scott of Wagener, SC, Breon Brown of Aiken, SC, Justin Cook of Hampton, SC, Zyveiar Jamison of Denmark, SC and Jamir McKenzie of Lake City, SC.

Industry representatives from Dominion Energy and Duke Energy attended the ceremony, offering their support to the newest graduates. The event included a presentation of certificates, inspiring speeches and a live demonstration showcasing the graduates’ mastery of critical lineworker skills.

“The electrical lineworker program at Denmark Technical College is about more than career training. It’s about creating opportunities that transform lives,” said Willie L. Todd Jr., Ph.D., president and CEO of Denmark Technical College. “These graduates represent the future of a diverse energy workforce and our commitment to creating economic mobility. Their success demonstrates the power of what we can achieve when we invest in our students and our community.”

Illustrious alumnus James W. Bowden Sr., retired vice president of Duke Energy, president of the Denmark Technical College National Alumni Association and a member of the DTC Area Commission, was on hand to support the graduates.

“This program is about empowering individuals to break barriers and pave the way for a more inclusive industry. To see these graduates achieve this milestone at the range that bears my name is truly humbling. I am proud to see them carry on the legacy of excellence that Denmark Tech represents,” said Bowden.

The lineworker program, launched in 2022, equips students with hands-on training, industry certifications and partnerships with leading utility companies. With a focus on safety, technical expertise and job readiness, the program prepares graduates in high-demand positions, fostering career growth and stability.

“At Denmark Technical College, we are committed to equipping individuals with the skills they need to thrive in industries that power our world. By fostering diversity in the energy sector and creating pathways to economic freedom, we are shaping a brighter future for our communities and beyond,” said Todd.
