Denmark Tech hosts afternoon tea empowering students with networking, etiquette, and stories of resilience

Denmark Technical College recently hosted an afternoon tea for students, spearheaded by Tia Wright-Richards, vice president for academic affairs, and sponsored by faculty, staff and the Bamberg-Hampton Alumni Chapter. This enriching event provided students with a platform to learn about tea etiquette, hear impactful stories of resilience and discover the power of networking as they prepare for their careers.

In alignment with Denmark Technical College’s mission, the afternoon tea encouraged personal and professional growth. Faculty and staff shared inspiring stories of perseverance, underscoring the supportive environment Denmark Tech creates to meet students where they are and guide them toward academic and career success. Through mentorship and networking, the event highlighted the college’s commitment to preparing students with skills essential for navigating the professional landscape.

“Our goal at Denmark Technical College is to provide opportunities for our students to grow academically, professionally and personally,” said  Willie L. Todd Jr., Ph.D., Denmark Technical College president and CEO. “We are dedicated to engaging, educating and empowering our students by guiding them toward excellence in the classroom and beyond. Events like these build confidence and foster the connections that will help them to navigate their careers with professionalism.”

Wright-Richards expressed her gratitude for the contributions of faculty, staff and alumni, reflecting the college’s dedication to uplifting students and fostering essential life skills.

“The afternoon tea gave our students the chance to learn in an encouraging environment, where they could connect with mentors and be inspired by real-life stories of success. Denmark Tech is more than an institution. We are a family committed to each student’s success,” said Wright-Richards.

“The afternoon tea was such an inspiring experience. Hearing the journeys of faculty and staff reminded me of how important it is to stay focused on my dreams and to seek out people who believe in me,” added Miss Freshman Asia Newsom.

As a leading HBCU in South Carolina, Denmark Technical College remains committed to creating empowering educational experiences that provide students with the skills and connections they need to thrive in today’s workforce.

“While this afternoon tea may feature fancy beverages and pastries, it represents so much more. It’s about building a foundation that will serve our students for the rest of their professional lives. Events like these are part of the bigger picture of what we do at Denmark Technical College. We are supporting students holistically as we guide them to create the futures they dream of and deserve,” said Todd.
