Denmark Technical College Officially Joins NJCAA

This basketball season opens with great excitement as Denmark Technical College’s Men and Women’s Basketball Teams open their first year of play with the National Junior College Athletic Association.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) is the governing body of intercollegiate athletics for two-year colleges.  The purpose of this NJCAA is to promote and foster junior college athletics on the intersectional and national levels.

T
he membership with NJCAA means Denmark Technical College’s Men and Women’s teams are able to move up to conference play, competing in Region 10, the Carolina’s Conference, which is composed of 13 teams from North Carolina and South Carolina.

“Becoming a member of the NJCAA is an honor for Denmark Technical College as well as the Men and Women’s Basketball Teams. They are hard-working, dedicated students and we are proud to be able to give them the opportunity to play conference basketball,” said Dr. John Waddell, President of Denmark Technical College.

Games will now be governed by the rules of NJCAA which includes adherence to conference schedules, high academic standings and opportunities for participation in conference and national tournaments.

“I am grateful for those who paved the way for Denmark Tech Basketball to be where it is today. We are excited and look forward to a successful basketball season. We encourage everyone to come out and support the teams” said Head Men’s Basketball Coach Adrian Bell.

Denmark Technical College is the second College in the South Carolina Technical College System to become a member of the NJCAA.  Aiken Technical College has been competing in the conference for a number of years.

The Men’s Basketball team opens the 2007-2008 season on the road at Gordon College in Barnesville, Georgia on November 3rd. The Women’s Basketball team opens at home against Spartanburg Methodist College on November 1st.
