Denmark Technical College Students among Those Recognized at The State House

Denmark Technical College students, Pricella Davis and Kathy Williams, were among 17 students to be recognized by the South Carolina Technical College System, named to the 2008 Phi-Theta Kappa South Carolina All-State Academic Team at a ceremony at the State House.

The students named were selected for this honor on the basis of academic performance, leadership accomplishments, and service to their colleges and local communities. In addition, these students participate in the annual All-USA Academic Team competition in April 2008, sponsored by USA Today, the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two-Year College.

Less than one percent of America's six million two-year college students have distinguished themselves with this superior level of academic achievement and service to their colleges and communities.

“We are proud to have two of our students receive this honor given by the State of South Carolina. They have worked hard and exemplify high levels of academic achievement and community service,” said Dr. John K. Waddell, President of Denmark Technical College.

Pricella Davis, a native of Bamberg S.C., is majoring in the Office Systems Technology Associate Degree Program. She was inducted into Phi-Theta Kappa in spring 2007 and has served as President of Community Affairs for DTC’s Alpha Epsilon Psi Chapter of Phi-Theta Kappa. Kathy Williams, a native of Branchville S.C., is majoring in the Human Service Associate Degree program. She was inducted into Phi-Theta Kappa in fall 2007 and has served as Vice President of Communications for DTC’s Alpha Epsilon Psi Chapter of Phi-Theta Kappa.

Both students received a gold medallion, a certificate for scholarly achievement, The Governor’s Proclamation and The Concurrent Resolution from the South Carolina House of Representatives.
