Federal Grants & Loans

FEDERAL GRANTS

Federal Pell:  Federal Pell Grants provide non-repayable funds to eligible applicants and are intended to be the   foundation of a combination of awards.  These grants may be used for payment of tuition, books   and living expenses, but do not cover the full cost of these items.  To receive a Federal Pell Grant, a student must be enrolled in an eligible program and complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid   (FAFSA).   Applications are available in  the Denmark Technical College Financial Aid Office.

Federal SEOG:  A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is awarded to students with exceptional financial need.   Federal SEOG is gift assistance and is not repaid.  Students must reapply each year.  The Federal SEOG is only awarded to students that demonstrate exceptional need as defined by the U.S. Department of Education.  To determine need, complete the FAFSA form.  At Denmark Technical College, FSEOG is awarded to students who have remaining eligibility after being considered for a Pell Grant and part-time work.

 

FEDERAL WORK-STUDY

Federal Work-Study:  The Federal Work-Study program provides part-time employment to eligible students.  You are paid on an hourly basis at a rate not less than the federal minimum wage.  You must be enrolled in   an eligible program.  Work-study jobs may be both on- and off-campus.

 

FEDERAL LOANS

Federal Direct (Stafford) Loans (formerly the Guaranteed Student Loan or GSL) are low-interest Loans  loans administered by the South Carolina Student Loan Program to assist students in paying educational-related expenses.  Repayment is deferred until six months after the student leaves college and payments are made in monthly installments.

The Federal Plus Loan Program was established to ease the burden that the cost of post-secondary education places on many families.  Federal Direct PLUS loans are available to parents of dependent students who need additional financial assistance or who may not qualify for other types of financial assistance.

 

SOUTH CAROLINA AID PROGRAMS

The South Carolina Need-Based Grant is designed to provide additional financial assistance to Need-Based Grant  South Carolina’s neediest students.  In order to receive the SC Need-Based Grant, you must comply with the following requirements:  1)  Be a legal resident of the state of South Carolina; 2)  Be of   good moral character, have no felony convictions or criminal record; 3)  Be admitted and enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate student and seeking your first undergraduate degree; 4)    Make satisfactory academic progress as defined by the College Catalog; and 5)  Renewal students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and must complete a minimum of 24 credits in an academic year.

Lottery Tuition Assistance Program provide tuition assistance to South Carolina residents attending a two-year public or independent institution of higher learning.
