RE:  DTC Choir to Perform in Washington, DC

choir pic 3At the invitation of Representative James E. Clyburn, the Denmark Technical College Choir will perform at the 45th Annual Legislative Conference Gospel Extravaganza.  The September 17, 2015 event begins at 8:00 pm at the United House of Prayer for All People in Washington, D.C.

The Choir will perform Let Everything That Has Breath by Kurt Carr and Battle of Jericho arranged by Moses Hogan; the ensemble will perform with the other invited choirs You Are Good arranged by Desmond Pringle.

The Denmark Technical College Choir is under the direction of Dr. Yvette McDaniel, an internationally recognized Classical Soprano from Orangeburg, SC.  McDaniel states, “This year, we get to use more of our classically trained vocal styles.  This is our second invitation and in 2012 we performed more standard Gospel selections.”  McDaniel has been given the honor of conducting the combined choir selection.  She goes on to say, “My assistant, Myron Brooker was requested to sing the solo during the final selection.  Myron grew up in Orangeburg.  I have watched him grow and develop and he is ready to set the place ‘on fire’.”

The DTC Choir is an ensemble of twenty voices.  These students represent various disciplines at the Institution.  “This is my first trip to Washington,” states Myrtle Beach freshman Susie Blanding.  Assistant to McDaniel, Ashley-Marie Jordan of Denmark reflects, “It has been hard work to get the seventeen freshman voices ready, but I think we are good to go.  We are the only South Carolina choir invited and we will make Denmark Tech, ourselves, the State and Representative Clyburn proud.”  Denmark Technical College Choir is the only college choir invited to sing at this year’s event.  Dr. Leonard McIntyre acknowledges, “Our choir is one of the finest around.  I invite anyone interested in being a part of this or any other aspect of Denmark Tech to contact us.  We open our doors to incoming students several times during a semester.  Wouldn’t it be exciting to be a part of our next major venture?  Come on.”

The Gospel Extravaganza takes place on the second day of the 4-day Annual Legislative Conference.  The conference is designed to introduce and support economic and social empowerment for all, especially African Americans and other minorities.  Thursday night’s Gospel Extravaganza is free and open to the public.
