DTC Celebrates Black History Month

DENMARK – The William L. McDuffie Student Services Center was filled with music as students, faculty, staff and the public celebrated Black History Month at Denmark Technical College (DTC).The presentation was a joint effort between the DTC Student Government Association (SGA) and the Choir.
Portraits of civil rights leaders and other historical figures formed a backdrop as the students took turns reading brief biographies of icons such as Rosa Parks and Denmark Vessey. Some students recited poems, some sang, some reenacted events during the time of slavery. Musical selections from the choir were interspersed between the performances with a mixture of old folk songs such as Glory by John Legend and Old Freedom.
Interim President Christopher Hall attended the function and closed out the performance. When asked later what he thought of the event, he stated, “The students did a wonderful job stressing the importance of perseverance and education to construct positive change. It is important to remember the struggles of our past. We must never forget how important education was to our forefathers. With an education, you can change the world and here at DTC we take that responsibility seriously.”
Denmark Technical College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award Associate Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates.
