Great things continue to happen at DTC. On Friday May 1, 2015 at 6:00 p.m., Denmark Technical College held its 68th commencement convocation at the William L. McDuffie Student Services Center.
In opening the 2015 Commencement, President Leonard A. McIntyre welcomed all parents, other relatives, and friends of the graduates to witness the conferring of the Certificates, Diplomas, and Degrees. A standing-room only gymnasium filled with proud parents, community leaders, faculty, staff, and well wishers witnessed a solemn processional ceremony and the conferring of degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates on more than 230 students.
During his address to the graduates, Representative Justin T. Bamberg of South Carolina District 90 congratulated the graduates on their educational accomplishments and encouraged them to exude perseverance in their pursuit of exemplary citizenry. He advised the audience to embrace perseverance, resiliency, determination, and accountability in their everyday life. Reflecting on his personal experience, Representative Bamberg told the graduates to pursue their dreams no matter how hard or long the journey gets, “I can because I say so, I will because I expect to,” quipped Representative Bamberg.

Throughout his speech, Representative Bamberg cajoled the graduates to believe in themselves and capitalize on the opportunities that will come their way as a result of their DTC education and training. He reminded the graduating class that they have worked very hard to earn the right to be called graduates. He acknowledged the parents and family members who supported the graduate every step of the way to arrive at this auspicious occasion. He closed his address by challenging the graduates to “take advantage of each opportunity during the life of the opportunity, do you want to be successful, or do you expect to be successful?”
Following the graduation message, Dr. McIntyre presented Representative Bamberg with a plaque. President McIntyre also presented special awards to two alumni with outstanding service to Denmark Technical College. Mr. Willie Caldwell of Denmark, South Carolina received the Presidential Service Award and Mr. Marion Blakely Jr. of Laurens, South Carolina received the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award.
The DTC choir provided the music and Reverend Dr. Herman Wallace, pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist church, Blackville, South Carolina, provided the Invocation. The Benediction was given by Reverend Louise Wright, pastor of the Orange Grove United Methodist Church, Bamberg, South Carolina.
