Children Celebrate Youth Fun Day at DTC
DENMARK – For almost a half-day, the campus of Denmark Technical College (DTC) was the temporary home to hundreds of impressionable youngsters and chaperones as they attended the annual DTC Youth Fun Day. Approximately 700 children, 75 teachers and teacher’s aides, 25 staff and faculty from DTC and 30 students from other areas/departments within Denmark Technical College participated in this year’s activities. President Leonard A. McIntyre stopped in to check on the festivities and was impressed at the large turn-out. He emphatically stressed, “The community entrusts its children to our care and it is a role we take very seriously. From the children attending this event to the students enrolled in our college, DTC is an important community resource and we want everyone to know that we are striving every day to fulfill that role.”
The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration promoted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children for the education of young children. This years’ celebration of the young child was sponsored by the Early Care and Education division at DTC. Dr. Wanda Nettles, Interim Director of the Department of Public Service; Mrs. Rosaland Kenner, Early Childhood instructor; and the ECE/ECD students spent many long hours preparing for the event and it was obvious by the appreciative looks on the children’s faces that they enjoyed every minute. The activities ranged from active to sedate as children chose between exuberantly jumping in the bouncy house, listening to stories, face painting, sack racing, hula hoops and cotton candy! The student workers all dressed as bright yellow “cartoon minions” patiently worked with the children at the various stations and Mrs. Kenner, was thrilled with the large turn-out. “Every year it is a race to get everything done in time, it gives our students real world experience and lets the public enjoy their hometown college,” exclaimed Mrs. Kenner.
DTC would like to thank everyone for their participation and support in this event. A special thank you goes out to all of the students and participating faculty members at DTC for their sacrifices which helped make the annual Youth Fun Day celebration a success.
