Creative Experiences

(ECD 132)


 

I. Course Description

         In this course students will explore the nature and importance of creativity for the growth and development of young children. Several approaches to develop activities to facilitate independent learning will be explored. This course will extensively use cooperative learning techniques and provide ample hands-on experience for the students to design and present creative activities those will be instructional for young children.

 II. Course Policies

         Required text: Creative Activities for Young Children, Mary Mayeski, 6th ed., Delmar: New York.

         This is a three-credit course.

   Attendance Policy and Procedures:  Attendance is mandatory for this program.  In order to get attendance online, each student must login at least twice per week to do their assignments.  Failure to login for attendance must be discussed with the instructor via email or web conferences.  The student will be responsible for making up all missed assignments and coursework.  Please refer to college catalog for a detailed description of the attendance policy.  Attendance will be a cumulative participation via e-mail, web conference, test, and interactive learning modules.

Withdrawal Procedures:  Last day to withdraw from courses without academic penalty is October 1, 2004.  However, student must come in person or contact the college counselor by phone or email to withdraw from a course.  Students last login date will be considered officially to withdraw from a course.  Failure to follow withdrawal procedures in a timely manner will result in receiving a grade of “F” for that course.

Assignments:  Assignments are expected to be completed by the due date.  Any exceptions must be discussed with the instructor.

 IV. Lesson Plan

The learning objectives will be covered through activities, portfolio assignments, demonstration and clinical experience reports in the sequence outlined in the on the web site. The tests will be available as the students complete the activities. A detailed assignment with due dates is attached.

 V. Special Course Requirements

You must have access to Internet through Netscape or Internet Explorer on a Pentium platform. Microsoft office is also required. You are required to sign the contract before continuing this course. You are also required to come to the Assessment Center located in Building 028, room 103 to complete Integrated Assessment Modules (IAMs).
