Incremental Learning Objectives (ILOs) are the heart and soul of the course. They set the guidelines for instructors to teach and students to master. Information on each ILO is assumed to take up 15-20 minutesfor processing. Following this the student is expected to ask questions for clarification. Later assessment items in test assess the mastery of individual ILOs. You must clearly understand what each ILO expects you to master. Each ILO is based on concepts, information processing, and modeling. They lead you to the IRP, ILM, and IAM.
Creative Experiences
Student will be able to:
· Define creativity.
· List several characteristics of creative children.
· Describe the relationship between creativity and curriculum.
· Understand the meaning of aesthetics.
· Identify five benefits of aesthetic sensitivity in children.
· List guidelines to help children work with aesthetic materials.
· Discuss attention span and activity pattern as they relate to young children.
· List the general planning guidelines for creative activities.
· Discuss factors that are important selecting equipment and materials.
· Understand the meaning of the terms media, software and hardware.
· Define the terms self-acceptance and self-concept.
· Discuss the place of art in the total early childhood program.
· Describe scribble, basic forms and pictorial stage of children.
· Describe the tools, materials, techniques and strategies involved in the two dimensional activities.
· Discuss some guidelines to follow for successful modeling activities.
· Define solitary, parallel, associative, and cooperative play.
· Discuss the importance of dramatic play to a young child’s development.
· Discuss the appropriate ways to use puppets in the Early Childhood Program.
· Incorporate creative activities in other curricular areas.
· Explain basic markers of a quality, multicultural, anti-bias program.
