Pinning Ceremony Milestone for Nursing Graduates

students at seatsDenmark, S.C. –Denmark Technical College (DTC) nursing students celebrated their graduation by participating in a pinning ceremony on the evening of July 25th. The students lit lamps, recited pledges and received pins as symbols of their preparedness to serve as compassionate caregivers. Family and friends filled the William L. McDuffie Student Services Center to witness the ceremony and support their loved ones as they celebrated the completion of the highly respected and rigorous practical nursing program at DTC.
Plaques were given to the students who stood out in their respective programs. In the Practical Nursing Program, Kristie Crouch was awarded both the Academic Excellence Award and the Best All Around Student Award. Katrina Jones received the Outstanding Clinical Performance Award. In the Nurse Aide Assistant Program Ke’Andra Hightower received the Academic Excellence Award and the Best All Around Student Award, while Teresa Williams received the Outstanding Clinical Performance Award.
The pinning ceremony has been a nursing school tradition at Denmark Technical College since 2008. The ceremony signifies the official initiation into the brotherhood and sisterhood of nurses. It is a proud moment for the students as they are welcomed into the nursing profession. The next step for the practical nursing student is to take the Nursing Certification Licensing Exam (NCLEX), and upon passage, the graduates will have earned the credential of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Similarly, the Nurse Aide Assistants must pass the National Nurse Assistant Assessment Program Exam (NNAAP) to be certified.
The 2016-2017 Practical Nursing Graduates were: Tameka Bell, Sidney Johnson-Boyd, Kristie Crouch, Naomi Frazier, Keyra Green, Sharonda Jenkins, Katrina Jones, Tina Pantaleon, Erica Redenburg, Shayla Smith and Mahalia Tyler and the Nurse Aide Assistant Graduates were: Tempest Evans, Ke’Andra Hightower, Nicole James, Lashelle Lawton, Ashley Leonard and Teresa Williams.
