Hundreds Turn Out for Youth Fun Day
DENMARK – The campus of Denmark Technical College (DTC) was filled with hundreds of happy squealing children as they attended the annual DTC Youth Fun Day. The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the accrediting agency for the DTC Early Care and Education Associate Degree Program. The event is an opportunity for all child care workers, families and students to be recognized for all their hard work and is sponsored by the Early Care and Education division at DTC.
Interim President Christopher Hall was impressed with the range of activities and the enthusiasm of the student workers. He noted, “From the children attending this event to the students enrolled in our college, DTC is an important community resource, we are entrusted with the care of their children and it is a role we take very seriously.”
Public Service Interim Dean Mrs. Rosaland Kenner and the ECE/ECD students spent many long hours preparing for the event and it was obvious by the appreciative looks on the children’s faces that they enjoyed every minute. Pictures of Sesame Street characters adorned the walls and Elmo and the Easter Bunny gave out candy and posed for pictures. Activities ranged from active to sedate as children chose between many activities such as a bouncy house, story time, making goo worms, face painting, sack races, hula hoops, magic sand and cotton candy! Students and employees patiently worked with the children and Mrs. Kenner was pleased with the outcome, “this event gives our students real world experience and lets the public enjoy their hometown college.”
DTC would like to thank everyone for their participation and support in this event. A special thank you goes out to the Bamberg Sheriff’s department, all of the Early Childhood Development/Early Childhood Education students and participating faculty members at DTC for their hard work and sacrifice which helped make this event a success.
